Every year when we turn our clocks back for Daylight Savings, I'm tricked into thinking it's spring. But New England weather is a tricky thing. Bright, sunny mornings that would promise warm, no-jacket days in other places often mean chilly, windy, I-can't-believe-I-didn't-wear-my-parka days (that you squint through if you forgot to bring your sunglasses).
Despite the fickle spring temperatures, every year the extra sun makes me ambitious, and I get the urge to plant things. Last year, I bought seeds early, and then ran couldn't find time to plant them until May. Unfortunately, prime planting + gardening time falls right in my gotta-work-like-mad to plan the rest of spring/summer and stock up for all those shows I just committed myself too.
This year, I decided to try and set my sights a little lower. My garden is going to be mostly indoors, in pots. I may still start a few seeds this weekend, but I've been focused on repotting some neglected plants around the house (and got a few new ones too) and bringing them over to enjoy the copious sun at the studio. So far, so good.
That's my new lavender plant, waiting repotting + then transport to Lowell. It's looking a teensy bit limp right now, I'm not sure it likes its current spot in the house.
And though plants flower late outdoors around these parts, I was encouraged to see leaves sprouting up on a walk over the weekend. Come faster, spring! I know you won't last long once you're here. I'm hoping that eventually, at least when I'm in the studio, I can be surrounded by flowers of all types year-round. Keep your fingers crossed! And remind me to get someone to water my plants when I go away.
That's been a deal-breaker in the past.
At least I'll always have some flowers around that I can't kill with my black thumb.
I hope things are blooming where you are! What are you planning/planting in your garden this spring?
